The United Nations Model is an educational role playing game, in which various meetings of the UN system are simulated. The members act as diplomats, re-creating the work of the existing rules of the procedure. They represent different member countries and participate in debating current topical issues on the UN agenda.

Every year hundreds of UN Models are held worldwide, and in 2009 the first UN Global Model took place. Scandinavian Gymnasium joined the UN Model movement in 2008.

According to information posted on the site of the United Nations, we are among the ten best UN Models in Ukraine. The main purpose of the conference is to promote the development of the senior students’ world view, to form leadership, political and social competencies.

The youth gets unforgettable experience of negotiations, and the opportunity to practice their skills in persuasion and public broadcasting.

" UN Model: Scandi" is an authoritative event which annually gathers 300 participants from all over Ukraine. This year 28 teams take part in the conference. Among them are representatives of Kyiv schools: the "Harmonia" Humanitarian Gymnasium, the "Triumph" specialized school, the "Scientific Change" lyceum, SPC "Dominant", the "Intellect" lyceum, the "Leader" lyceum #171, specialized school #291, gymnasium #136, school #167, Kyiv international University, and schools of the cities of Cherkasy and Melitopol. For the first time the team of Public School #98 of Tbilisi (Georgia) has joined the game.

The experience and practical skills that young people get at the conference will help them not only to better understand the structure and logic of decision-making in international organizations, but also to understand the basic principles of the international institutions and adequately represent Ukraine in future on the international arena.

During the conference, a panel "Reforming Ukraine – reforming the world" conducted by Yuri Pivovarov, MFA Ambassador at Large of Ukraine, and Yegor Pivovarov, the 1st Secretary of the MFA Department of International Security of Ukraine.

Our senior students didn’t let the visitors go asking many questions concerning international problems and prospects of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and other countries.

In connection with commemorating the anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine all committees held a moment of silence.
Traditionally, a diplomatic ball was given this year dedicated to flowers. An incredible spectacle, during which the delegates danced 15 well-known dances from different countries, captured the audience.

On the third day of the conference "The Secret Person" Dmitry Kapranov, a famous Ukrainian journalist, writer and social activist came and conducted a fruitful discussion on building a democratic society.

The conference was concluded by voting for the resolutions which were the results of the work in the committees. All the participants were awarded diplomas and letters of appreciation.

Thanks to all the people who contributed to this event, the participants, the organizers, our teachers, curators, choreographers, parents, and especially to Elizaveta Hlotova, the inspirer of the project.
