High School Graduation Party

On June the 1st, 2013 the graduation ceremony where 11-formers received certificates of secondary education was held at Scandinavian Gymnasium. Among the graduating students, Sergey Bodrov, Denis Zelenko and Anna Sokur were given the Gold Medals For Outstanding Academic Achievements, and Maryan Kinzer the Silver Medal For Academic Excellence.

Among the May celebrations the Day of the Embroidery held in Scandinavian Gymnasium on May the 21st, 2013 became a real folk festival. The variety of colors of Ukrainian embroidery beautified each class. In the school yard the students created a flash mob "The Scandinavian Gymnasium Embroidery."

The other day, in celebration of the Day of Europe, Kyiv hosted the XI International Conference of the Pedagogical Club of European Capitals on "Experiences and Prospects of Development of the European School Education Area." The participants who gather every year in different European countries discuss problems of the school education.

Spring. Flowers in bloom and smelling herbs. This time of the year brings both joy and sadness. Joy for the students who have completed the school year, and sadness - for 11-formers because they have finished the school and cant turn back the time. Now they look forward to their exams and are ready to make a new step in life. But our graduate students can manage everything.

In March Spain hosted Fiestalonia Milenio, the International dance festival which was attended by about 600 participants of different ages. Among the variety of dance styles and a large number of talented young people Dennis Shulga, the 5th grade student of our gymnasium, took the first place.

Happy Victory Day!

On the eve of the great holiday the guests of honor, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Vladimir Zarzhitsky and Gregoriy Skoryna visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. They talked about their memories of the terrible events of the war and their participation in the liberation of Kyiv and the Motherland from the Nazi invaders.

On the eve of the Easter holidays our students had a great opportunity to join the master class on painting Easter eggs. The Christmas decorations factory worker who came to us on a visit taught the students to decorate Easter eggs. The teachers also joined the master class and had a lot of fun.

On April the 25th the delegation from Scandinavian Gymnasium visited the Centre of Indian Culture "Sankriti" where an evening of Ukrainian-Indian friendship was held. Our students presented a small concert of folk and ballroom dancing.

On April the 25th the teachers of Foss Skole from the capital of Norway visited our school. The teachers Hannah Berg, Anne Stolen, Elin Stokke, Peter Voss were interested in the education system of Ukraine and the lives of the high school students. The distinguished guests had the opportunity to talk with our high school students the members of the European Club "The Vikings" who presented the Model of the United Nations" project.

On April the 14-19th at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations the scientific and practical conference "MIMUN-2014" was held. The game was attended by about 600 young people from 28 countries. The students of our school accompanied by a history teacher E. Glotova were also invited to Moscow.

Week of the English Language in the 4th Forms

During the festival of foreign languages in Scandinavian Gymnasium the week of the English language was held in the 4th forms. The aim of the event was to identify the best students learning foreign languages. The pupils took part in various contests and competitions, demonstrated their knowledge of grammar, listening, reading, speaking and writing. The high-school students showed their talents and the ability to be fluent in the language.

On April the 23rd the famous Finnish-Ukrainian translator Yuri Zub visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. During his visit Mr. Zub met with the students studying Finnish. The students were interested in the Finnish language, the difficulties of translation and the future plans of the translator.

Ukraine and Finland Through the Eyes of Children

Recently, an international exhibition of children's drawings "For the Future" initiated by the public organization "Kyiv - Tampere" took place in the Chocolate House. The children from Finland and Ukraine exhibited their works. Scandinavian Gymnasium was represented by the fine arts hobby group under the guidance of J. Rozkolodko.

On April the 18th "The Northern Lights", a traditional and well-known festival took place in the Scandinavian Gymnasium which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education of Ukraine Mr. Zhebrovsky, the Head of the State Administration of Education in Darnytsya district of Kyiv S. Timchenko, Håkan Hedstrom, the Military Attaché of the Embassy of Sweden, Tuuri Mattila, the Secretary of the Embassy of Finland, and other guests.

Trip to the Fabulous Kingdom of Denmark

In the framework of the project of cooperation between Scandinavian Gymnasium and the Gymnasium of Naestved (Denmark) the partnership exchange is under way. A group of students and high school teachers went on a journey to the magical Denmark. The Ukrainian delegation took part in the training and non-formal activities: attended the classes, travelled around the city, saw the sites and interesting historical places.

On April the 12th the distinguished guests - Ms. Päivi Lipponen, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Future of Finland, and Mr. Tuuri Mattila, the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Finland in Ukraine, visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. During their visit the guests communicated with the students, members of the school Euro Club "The Vikings" and got acquainted with its activities, they were interested in the scientific and practical conference "Model of the United Nations" in particular.

On April the 1sta delegation of teachers from Turkey representing Zeytinburnu, a district of Istanbul, visited Scandinavian Gymnasium. S. Results of the "Elementary School Constellation" Festival

The last chords of the traditional creative intellectual festival "The Constellation of the Elementary School" ceased.  From the 11th of February, 2013 to the 7th of March, 2013 the fireworks of various events allowed each child to demonstrate his/her abilities in various creative competitions, solo and group exhibitions, and intellectual contests.

Competition of the "Shogun" Club in Estonia

On March 2-3, Tallinn (Estonia) hosted the annual international tournament for the Cup of Estonia "Tallinn Bulldog." Our karate club "Shogun" won 4 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze medals in that competition. The students of Scandinavian Gymnasium scored big successes.

To the world of the English language in the "Magic Train"

The Festival of Creativity and Intelligence is under way at our elementary school. Our third graders shone as bright stars in "The Constellation". During the first days of spring they, along with the teachers and parents, traveled to the world of English in the "Magic Train."

Model of the United Nations at # 136 Gymnasium

On March 1-2, a scientific-practical conference "The Model of the United Nations 2013: Your future starts today" took place in the gymnasium #136 which was attended by the students of the 7-10 forms of Scandinavian Gymnasium. The team of 22 high school students represented the following countries: Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway.

 

We play "The Geliantus"

The students of our gymnasium for two years in succession take an active part in the All-Ukrainian natural history game "The Geliantus." This academic year, 67 of its members were high school students - students of the 6-10 grades. The Geliantus" game allows students to test their knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology and geography.

 

A Trip to Scandinavia

On February the 21st our 4-formers made a virtual trip to Scandinavia. This holiday has become a tradition and resulted from a fruitful research work of the students, teachers and parents.

Results of the Regional Subject Olympiads and the Junior Academy of Sciences Competition-Defense

In January, 2013 the district stage of All-Ukrainian Olympiads and the competition-defense of students research works of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were completed. The students of Scandinavian Gymnasium showed good results in more than 20 subject competitions and received 73 prizes.

On January the 25th Scandinavian Gymnasium celebrated its eighth anniversary. During the day, all the classes celebrated the birthday of the gymnasium which meant that everyone was able to congratulate our school with its anniversary.

On January the 24th teachers from the University of the city of Umeo (Sweden) visited Scandinavian gymnasium. Eric Sururson, the teacher of history, Sandra Neslund, the teacher of arts, and Jimmy Carlson, the teacher of physical education, attended the lessons, talked to the teachers and students, learned about the life of our school..

At the end of December Christmas matinees for the elementary and secondary school students took place at Scandinavian Gymnasium. All the students attended a theater performance "The Snow Queen", had the opportunity to express themselves in fun games and amusements as well as to demonstrate their festive costumes.

Christmas Ball of the Ancient Dance Circle

The large bright chamber Sounds of music ... Ladies in elegant skirts ... Gentlemen in tuxedos ... And couples whirling around in the waltz ...  All this happened at the "Ten Days Before Christmas" ball in which "Renacimiento", the ancient dance circle of Scandinavian Gymnasium, participated on the 15th of December.

On occasion of the anniversary of the Independence Day of Finland on December the 18th the students and the teachers of Scandinavian gymnasium prepared a gala evening and invited Mrs. Arya Makkonen, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Finland in Ukraine. Professor B. Tsyganok, the President of the "Ukraine - Finland" society, K. Tishchenko, Professor of Taras Shevchenko National University, and the students of the National Music Academy of Ukraine visited the gymnasium.

December the 13th is an important date for the people of Sweden. That's when they celebrate St. Lucia. It has become a tradition for the students of our gymnasium to celebrate this day with the Swedish community in Kyiv.

This holiday has come to us from the past because in ancient times the learning process began on that day. On December 7-8, traditionally, the UN Model. Scandy 2012 scientific-practical conference was held at our gymnasium. This year's game was dedicated to the topical theme "The role of the UN in preserving the oceans." New Victories of the "Shogun" team

On the 17th of November 44 athletes of the karate "Shogun" team took part in the international tournament The 15th Tatami Cup held in Budapest (Hungary). 600 athletes of 64 teams from Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Herzegovina and Ukraine competed on 6 tatamis.

They are the representatives of the European resource center on education for intercultural understanding, human rights and democratic civics.
